Campfire stories come to life on the big screen

IT Book vs Movie

I just came back from the new It film (2017). I’m still trying to come down on how I feel about it compared to the book. The movie really took a lot of liberties with the storyline. And there were some pros and cons because of that.

There were a few things that I liked about the film. The casting was spot on. So much so, in fact, that I started writing who my favorite characters were, only to look back and couldn’t help but add on and add on to that list. Each actor perfectly brought out the character traits from the novel. The other thing that I actually liked about them changing the storyline so much was that I couldn’t always predict when the scary parts were going to happen.

On the opposite side of that coin, I thought they changed a little too much of the storyline. I know the book is just over 1,000 pages, and that’s a lot of back story (believe me…I trudged through ALL of it), but I was hoping for this new film to track the main narrative more closely.

I would say this movie had JUST enough of a smattering of the plot to make me satisfied (barely). And to step back and take a less analytical standpoint, this was a truly great horror film. It had me jumping out of my seat and covering my eyes with spread fingers so I could peak through. You know, like the warrior I am.
