The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman

For Nobody Owens, life is unusual to say the least. When his family is brutally killed as a baby, he barely escapes; and finds himself being raised in a graveyard by ghosts. With the killer still on the loose and determined to find Bod (short for Nobody), he is confined to the graveyard and must walk between the world of the living and the dead. Pick up this Gaiman book to follow Bod on his many adventures and peculiar life.

This book for me was a solid read. I couldn’t help but compare it to The Ocean at the End of the Lane (also by Gaiman) since I loved it so deeply. I think this one isn’t quite as captivating but is still a great novel for young adults full of a peril, ghouls, and lessons learned. Gaiman is an artist at story telling and these books remind me of the stories we would have read to us as children. I will say that these COULD be read to younger children, but they would be quite scary and more in the horror genre for youngins.

Overall, I think this is great for young adults who like fantasy and ghost stories…but I will also say that there are better Neil Gaiman books out there.
