Samantha Sweet has dreams of opening her own bakery, until then she cleans up properties that have been foreclosed. It’s good money until she runs into two deaths, at two different locations, in one day. Now she is wrangled into the mystery of a mystical box that is left to her by one of the deceased and also roped into the investigation of what could be a murder of the other body found.
I figured this book would be a disappointment since it seemed to be a kitchy type of mystery novel. I picked it up because it was A.) free and 2.) fit part of my PopSugar Reading Challenge of 2019 . I will have to say that this book was better written than I could have hoped for. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still your basic feel-good cozy mystery, but I thought I was going to be rolling my eyes and pushing just to finish it. Instead I found it to be a fun quick read with charming characters. My biggest criticism is one that I’ve found with many books in this genre….I always hate it when the hero/heroine breaks the law in order to further their investigation but then they never suffer the consequences of breaking the law. Too frustrating for me!
You should pick up this speedy read as a distraction if you liked the Hallmark movie Gourmet Detective…or really anything on the Hallmark Movies & Mysteries channel.
