Reliquary by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child

Series: Pendergast Series / Book: 2

After a long break in between, I finally picked up the sequel to Relic. In this second novel bodies begin turning up throughout New York a little over a year and a half after the chaotic escapades in the museum. As an inquiry begins to discover who is killing people in the city, it quickly turns toward the weird and twisted when some of the bodies are found to be not quite human. Pendergast joins the investigation thinking this case may potentially be linked to the Mbwun beast.

I felt very similarly about this book as I did the first one. It’s all right. There is a bit of intrigue that kept me going throughout…but overall I think it isn’t very memorable. This novel is listed under the horror genre, and I guess I just expect more edge-of-your-seat kind of suspense after reading some of the masters like King and Lovecraft. This, to me, is lackluster in comparison.

I would recommend this one to people who have read the first book in the series so you can find out what happens to the cast of characters after they survive the night at the museum. Other then that, I would say there is better out there to be had.
