Genesis Code

This review will be a little different from my normal ones. This is because I am reviewing a book I have read before. I can probably count on 1-2 hands how many books I’ve read more than once…it’s just not my thing; I feel like there are more books than I’ll be able to get to in my life time, so it takes something very special for me to go back and read something I’ve already picked up. The reason I’ve re-read this selection is because of the PopSugar Reading Challenge for 2019. One of the listed items is “A re-read of a favorite book” therefore we land ourselves here…with me reviewing Genesis Code by John Case
Joe Lassiter has developed a multi-million dollar business by building a top-notch investigation firm. Unfortunately his skillset is needed for personal use when his sister and nephew are brutally murdered. Now Joe is following the clues to find out who it was and why they would want his family dead. But the investigator doesn’t know that he is about to fall down a rabbit hole of darkness, twisted religion, and what seems like science fiction. Can he save other potential victims from a killer who believes his killing spree is righteous?
I chose this book as my re-read because I remember the first time I read it I was blown away with the storyline. I still think that the science portion of this book is fascinating, but I think that when it was written in 1998 it was even more cutting edge. Now some of the technology is commonplace and was probably easier for me to understand this time around because it’s more openly talked about. The downside to picking this book is that it is a murder mystery, and the best part about that genre is trying to figure out the big reveal before it comes. I hadn’t really thought about how a book of this style might not be as fantastic the second time around because the secrets, twists, and turns are already spoiled from the previous read. All in all I think the book is still great, but it’s harder to rave about when I wasn’t left shocked by the surprising moments.
You should pick up this novel if you like the Dan Brown books like Angels & Demons or The Da Vinci Code.
