Evelyn After

Evelyn After follows the life of a woman who has been living a nice existence with her family, maybe stretching herself thin with her level of taking care of others in her life, but quaint nonetheless. That is, until she catches her husband cheating. This revelation sends Evelyn into an emotional spiral; she gathers as much information on the Other Woman as she can…and ends up finding herself in a sticky situation or two.
I think the best thing I can say about this book is: I’m not quite sure how to feel about this book. The first portion of the novel gets you set up to really feel bad for the protagonist, but by the time it’s in full swing it’s becomes muddled as to who the bad guy is and who is innocent. I found myself very frustrated with the main character many times while she is trying to right all the wrongs that have suddenly entered her life. In the end, I didn’t love the protagonist, but I also was happy at the peace she finds. I will say, I was also very happy that the author didn’t make this a ride-off-into-the-sunset story; it wouldn’t have fit with the rest of the novel.
Overall I think this was a good book, but I think I would have rather used my limited time on something else. I would recommend this book to people who like fiction that reflects real life rather closely. This could have been a real woman’s story quite easily.
