The Woman in Cabin 10

This best seller has been on my to-read list for way too long. So I’ve picked it up, and now I know what all the hype is about. We follow Laura Blacklock from her life in London as a travel journalist onto the maiden voyage of a ritzy yacht. On the first night she startles awake to hear a scream from the cabin next to hers and a splash in the water along with blood on the balcony. When help arrives there is no evidence anyone has been in cabin 10 next to her. Has Blacklock witnessed a murder that no one believes but her? And how much danger is she in if the killer is on the boat and knows that she knows?
This was a fast paced and gripping read. The writing is entrancing and I almost never came up for air. It really reminded me of the Agatha Christie novels with Poirot hot on a murderer’s trail. Ware casts shadows of doubt on just enough people that you aren’t really sure which way is up and who is left innocent of the crime. About half way through I thought I knew how the end of the book was going to play out…but when Laura pushes her investigation a little too far with no where to run, I found myself wondering how she was going to escape with her life. I was absorbed until the very last pages.
I would recommend this novel to anyone who liked Death on the Nile or the 1964 classic Murder Ahoy.
I would obviously recommend this short book to those who are reading the Red Queen series.
