The Things We Wish Were True

This book follows the individuals in a small southern community over a summer of fun, intrigue, and secrets….lots of secrets. But whose secrets are private blunders and whose are downright dangerous?
This novel ended up being something I didn’t really expect it to be. I thought, from the description on Amazon, that some really horrible kidnapping or murder would happen at the beginning of the story and then the rest of the book would be spent figuring out which local had done it. The mysteries were subtler; true to life. It was about past loves that come back into town, cheating spouses, and yes, even a kidnapping (but this is not the main discovery of the book). The questions about each character’s secret are slow to form, but left me curious what the whole story would reveal. I thought this was an alluring read that wasn’t too in your face. It was a slow burn, but worth the wait for the finale.
I would recommend this story to those who liked Montana by Gwen Florio or the Hallmark Mystery Movie channel.
