The Girl in the Ice by Robert Bryndza

I finished another audiobook lately; it was The Girl in the Ice. I have seen the cover of this book on many bookstores’ “Hot Seller” shelves and I’ve wanted to pick it up for awhile now. When a rich girl’s body is found frozen in a London lake, detective Erika Foster is put on the case. What they don’t know yet is there are several other bodies with similar details. Who can’t help but kill these women? And what happens when Erika gets the murderer’s attention?

Overall I would say this was a solid murder mystery; there wasn’t anything shockingly awesome about it, but it was a well thought out story. My main frustration with this novel is that the detective often goes off against orders and never really gets punished for it. While on the other hand, when Erika has great leads, her superiors ignore them and want her to sweep them under the rug. Unfortunately this all had to do with how rich the victim’s family is and didn’t want any bad press. I hate to say it, but I could see this exact thing happening in real life and it’s frustrating that those would be the priorities over catching a serial killer.

It was a quality read and I would recommend it to the murder mystery nerds like me out there. It had a bit of a Girl with the Dragon Tattoo feel to it, so if you liked that book or film I would think you might enjoy this book.
