The Fires of Heaven by Robert Jordan

Series: The Wheel of Time / Book: 5

Ok, I’ll be the first one to say, this fifth book in the series took me a really long time to get through. There, I said it. This section of the series picks up with Rand taking the Aiel out of the Waste and over the Dragon’s Spine to fight Couladin. Egwene continues to learn how to walk the World of Dreams and meets Nynaeve and Elayne there to catch up on their travels.

I’m sorry if this sounds like a boring synopsis of the book, but it’s because it was a boring book. I feel saddened to be writing these words when I have loved all the previous novels…but it’s the reason why it took me so long to finish the book. The vast majority of this novel is just A LOT of storyline that, granted, needs to be told to get to the next major plot points. I’m not saying there wasn’t any goodness to this book, but the bulk of it is in the last third of this one. There just weren’t enough action sequences to get me through every couple hundred pages. Nothing left me wondering what would happen next and needing to read just a couple more pages.

I’m not saying to skip this book; there are a lot of important things that are revealed throughout. But I wouldn’t expect this one to fly by like the other four have for me. I’m hoping the sixth book will take off and capture my attention once again. Wish me luck fellow readers.

Malia's Pizza Rating

Pizza Rating: A hot slice of pizza at the menagerie. *Note* I found this theme song while diving deep into the interwebs…I couldn’t help but share it because it was so happy and so 80’s. I’m sure Nynaeve and Elayne were not nearly as happy in their circus.
