Hyperbole and a Half

This comic book is a fantastic quick read that is laugh-out-loud funny. For anyone who hasn’t seen Brosh’s comic strip floating around the internets, these are basically short stories about her life and the chaos that surrounds it…but ya know…in a hilarious way! From being chased through her home by a killer goose, to adopting two barely functioning dogs, the adventures are never ending.
I loved this comic long before I picked up the book; so it’s no surprise that I loved each of these stories and self-consciously looked around each time I couldn’t suppress a laugh. The way that Brosh writes, in and of itself, is brilliant and picture painting. But then you add on top of that the child-like drawings that perfectly accompany the verbal description, and you end up with pure comedic gold. This is a quick read (one sitting if you want), but I would recommend reading one story here and there….that way you don’t compare them all to one another. When I finished I thought through all of them and judged some more harshly because they weren’t as funny as my personal favorites. Then I started to describe a few stories to my room mates later on and couldn’t help but laugh at each one again and wanted to share them all.
You should pick this up if you already enjoy the strips floating around social media. I would also say this is up your alley if you like the writings of David Sedaris.
