Digging In by Loretta Nyhan

How do you properly grieve the lost of a family member? How long is the right amount of time to mourn? Paige learns the answers to these and also discovers herself when she begins to open up and meet new friends. All of this after breaking down one night and digging up the majority of her back yard to release the hurt bottled up inside.

I thought this was a fantastic quick read. It’s a heart-warming tale of fighting to get back on top after being side swiped off your pedestal. The characters are imaginative and eclectic; ones that you want to hear about after the story is finished. They are the perfect medicine for our protagonist as she slowly decided to start living life again after loosing her husband two years previous. I loved watching the transformation and internal process that Paige goes through trying to mend her broken heart and home. It gave me pause to think about some of the sage advise she gets from co-workers and friends; it may only be a fictional book, but I’m hoping to reflect back on the suggestions presented in this book in the future. It’s all about adjusting and trying to live life to it’s fullest.

I would recommend this book to those who have gone through a tough grieving process or to those who liked P.S. I love you or Message in a Bottle.
