Creatures of Will & Temper

Evadne is the antithesis of her sister Dorina. One is proper and perfectly happy staying on the straight and narrow path; while the younger is hungry to experience the city, it’s art, and all other expressions of beauty (no matter how improper some may seem). Both will follow separate paths that will usher them into a world of demons and their close relationship to humans. The question is: will they survive it all?
This was a novel that was a little slow to start, for me, but once I got into the character development I found myself unable to put the book down. We know from the very beginning of the story that there are humans who have allied themselves with demons but are left wondering when the two main characters will discover this information. When they do, all proverbial hell breaks loose and not everyone makes it out alive. This book is a reimagining of the famous The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. It has wonderful correlations to the original book with both its characters and the theme of hedonism, specifically the pursuit of pleasure. I thought the author did a fantastic job of creating a narrative that tips a hat to the classic, but also adds an element of fantasy.
I would suggest reading this one if you like the idea of the battle between good and evil or the movie Devil’s Advocate.
