Brave New World by Aldous Huxley

In Aldous Huxley’s version of the future, everyone is bred in bottles, forced to split into 96 perfectly replicated humans, then manipulated to grow into anything from an Alpha to an Epsilon to function as specific laborers in society. As children they are conditioned to mate, remain happy, and consume…consume….consume. But what happens when a “savage” from the outside is planted in this civilization?

This book was so heavy with content that requires reflection and deliberation that I don’t think my written words will do the book justice. There are innumerable subjects that this book touches on that make one wonder if our society is already heading down a road of hive-minds and the illusions of happiness. I truly enjoyed this read, but I have to be honest and say that I have read 1984 before this one, and couldn’t help but compare them to one another. I think each has its “food-for-thought” items, but I liked the overall storyline to 1984 better than Brave New World. I also think that this book is best read and digested in a book club setting; I have all these thoughts and opinions running through my mind, but I would love to hear what my peers think about both my thoughts, and how they interpreted the novel.

If you are ready to reflect on society, the governments of the world, and where we’re all headed…then I suggest you read Brave New World, 1984, and Animal Farm. They will leave you a changed person.
