Artemisby Andy Weir

This was the novel that would help me decide if Andy Weir was a one-hit wonder. *Spoiler Alert* HE. ISN’T. Artemis is a small city on the moon; where the rules are played fast and loose, leaving room for a smuggler turned agent for espionage.

I absolutely fell in love with this book! If you’re a fan of Weir’s first hit, The Martian, then you will be bound to love this one too. I was worried that he would basically be taking the first book and just rewriting it with small changes. Both book are set in outer space, and that is pretty close to where the similarities end. The only other thing they have in common is that perfect balance Weir has of science, action, and humor. Other then that, the character is a sassy and strong woman, there is a town full of people on the moon, and the main cast of characters gets roped into a caper…quite different from The Martian. Side note: there is a lot more language in this one than the first; that’s right up my alley, but if you don’t love a foul mouth then this one might be a lot to handle. I can’t praise this novel enough but I can officially say I’m an Andy Weir fan and can’t wait to see what hits the shelves next!

I would recommend this book if you liked the lawlessness of Hong Kong in James Clavell’s Nobel House. I would also recommend it to those who loved the escapades of The Italian Job.
