Someone Else’s Daughter by Linsey Lanier

Series: Miranda's Rights Mystery / Book: 1

I quickly picked up a murder mystery book, which I haven’t been able to do much with the 2017 Reading Challenge. This one follows a woman who got out of an abusive relationship after her husband gave up her child for adoption without her consent. Years later she has learned to stick up for herself and has never given up th search for her daughter; a lead takes her to Atlanta and quickly finds herself in the middle of a murder investigation. Follow Miranda as she tries to track down her daughter AND help catch a killer.

I went back and forth for a long time on how to rate this novel. The writing was smooth and the characters likeable. I quickly felt invested in their connections to one another and their pasts. I sped through the pages, but finished up with an ending that I really didn’t love. I thought there were better suspects who would have wound up being the killer. And I didn’t like the way her romantic connection ended. The only hope I have is that this is a series and that the romance continues in another book. So with how much I enjoyed the first 80% of the book, paired with how I didn’t applaud the wrap up, I took one slice away.

I still really liked the book, and it’s worth reading if you love the mystery & suspense genre. Otherwise I would probably recommend other show stoppers for those just dabbling in the category.
