Murder on the Orient Express

I wanted to pick up the novel before going to see the film that was just recently released. There is a train that gets stuck on the snowy passes on it’s midnight run and a man turns up dead in his cabin. Luckily, Hercule Poirot is also a passenger on the train; no doubt he will be able to solve this shocking mystery.
Like many of the other Poirot mysteries, Christie does an amazing job of casting doubt onto all characters presented. The famous detective weaves through the suspects, holding his cards close to his chest until the very end. I’ve never been good at guessing who the culprit is in these novels, but with this one I actually knew the ending because it has become so famous through the years, and has been used in many other films and TV series. With that being said, I didn’t find the path of getting there any less exciting and well told. One criticism to this type of book is that there is always a larger cast of characters that I sometimes have a hard time keeping straight. That’s why I think the movie will be very good. From what it looks like, the cast of characters is fantastic and it will be easier to put a face with a name throughout the storyline.
I would recommend this one to lovers of Poirot books or the series on Netflix. I would also recommend it to those who loved Midsomer Murders.

The Enigma – base sauce, toppings, THEN covered with mozzarella; so that you can’t tell what ingredients there are. It’s a mystery.
