Cruel Crown
Series: Red Queen Series / Book: Prequel
I finished Cruel Crown this weekend; which is a short book with two novellas that are prequels to the Red Queen series. The first story gives us a better look into how Cal’s mother (Coraine) finds herself quickly swept away and in the position of queen to the Silvers. The second short story covers the background of Farley and how she began infiltrating the land of Norta and setting up the Scarlet Guard.
I read this book between Glass Sword (book #2) and King’s Cage (book #3). I chose to do it this way as it is suggested in that order by the author on her website. I’m interested to move on to King’s Cage to see if reading these novellas between the two books will make a difference. We shall see.
Both of these stories are very short and easy reads. I really liked getting to background stories of each of these powerful women, and it leaves the reader with a better understanding of how the facts laid out in each novella lead to the circumstances in the Red Queen series. The only complaint I would make is that the writing is so entertaining that I wish I could have had full books regarding each storyline.
I would obviously recommend this short book to those who are reading the Red Queen series.
