A Million Ways to Die in the West by Seth MacFarlane

I am a big fan of the Seth MacFarlane cartoons that are on television these days. That is why I decided to pick up his novel A Million Ways to Die in the West. It takes place in Southern Arizona in the 1880’s and chronicles the escapades of a cowardly man named Albert who is all too aware of how many dangers lie in Wild West living. What will come along that will make Albert ready to die for?

This was an extremely quick read (I finished it in a day). I can’t say that I really loved it though. The storyline itself was well thought out enough, but the mix between the historical West setting and modern day toilet humor left me confused. All I could keep thinking was that it would make for a better comedic movie. After I finished the book I found out there actually IS a movie. I’m not sure if the book or film came first, but I’m actually looking forward to watching the movie to see if I was right and it is better suited for the screen.

I would only recommend this one to people who really love toilet humor or to people who read really fast and appreciate Seth MacFarlane’s style of comedy. Otherwise, you’d probably be better off watching the movie.
