The Shell Collector
Just completed The Shell Collector by Anthony Doerr. It is a collection of short stories ranging from International fishing contests gone wrong, to a winter spent in Montana.
I wasn't in love with the writing style at first...it took me a while to get the cadence of the author's voice. I also think I liked this book more because I was able to break down all the questions, symbolism, and opinions I had with my book club. The stories are often about the juxtaposition between nature and city life. The characters are interesting and each an adventurer in their own way.
I think this is a book better suited for avid readers who like to interpret stories and infer their own deeper meaning. If you like that...then this collection is up your alley.
